私たちの祖先から家宝の筆頭として伝えられてきた日本刀は、我が国独特の鍛錬法により製作された世界無比の文化財であります。
日本刀に対して、私たち日本人は郷愁のような愛着と、かつて武士の魂として佩刀（はいとう）された日本刀に心中深く畏敬の念を抱いております。
一千年以上の歴史を持つ日本刀、そして銘鑑によれば刀匠は二万名といわれ、三万名とも想像されていますが、日本刀は五箇伝中（沸えを本位とする山城伝・大和伝・相州伝、匂いを本位とする備前伝・美濃伝）のいずれかの伝法に属する作柄であります。
中学一年生から刀の研ぎを始め、昭和４７年９月に文化庁から鍛刀許可を得て刀鍛治になり営々と刀に関する諸工作も手懸けてきた刀匠・福津久が、念願のさむらい刀剣博物館を創設いたしました。
かならず愛刀家各位の心の琴線にふれ共感をいただけるものと確信いたしております。

展示室には、国宝資料・七宝小太刀御拵をはじめ重要文化財・保存刀剣・特別保存刀剣・特別貴重刀剣などの名刀が約60振ズラリと展示しております。
また、とちぎ博を記念して造った大太刀は一見の価値ありです。
鎧(よろい)、鍔(つば)、男乗り物(殿様の駕籠)といった“さむらい” に関する展示の他、火縄銃、隕石なども展示されています。
日頃の仕事に感謝し、安全と健康を祈念するおまつりの「ふいごまつり」（１１月初旬） 、「新年初打ち」などの企画があり、作刀工程の実技や居合の実演・試し斬りなどを行います。

One display are memorial swords ( including one that is especially long and thick ) made by Yanagita sensei which were exhibited at the Tochigi and Ibaraki Hakurankai ( Prefectural exp. ). Other antique samurei items such as armor, tsuba ( a sword guard ), a kago ( palanquin ), hinawajyu ( antique guns ), and a meteor complete the exhibit.
During festival days like the Fuigo Matsuri ( Bellows festival a traditional sword festival ), and New Year’s, there will be iai ( sword drawing ), tameshigiri ( sword testing ), and demonstrations of swordmaking.
The making of Japanese swords is an important cultural treasure of Japan, a gift descended from the ancestors. In the words of Yanagita sensei , “When I see a Japanese sword, the history and spirit of the samurai well up inside of me and I realize that the sword is sacred.
According to makimono ( ancient scrolls ) there is a more than one thousand year old legacy of Japanese swordmaking. At its height there were some 20,000 – 30,000 swordmakers concentrated in these following five schools : Yamashiro school . Yamato school Soushuu school . Bizen school and Mino school . Every sword produced during that time period belonged to one of these traditions.
Yanagita sensei began studying sword burnishing in his freshman year of junior high school ( 7th grade ) , In September, 1972, he received his menkyo kaiden ( a certificate of full proficiency in an art ) for sword making from the Agency for Cultural Affairs .
When he opened the museum, it was like his dream had come true.
Yanagita sensei is sure that if people who like swords come to his museum, they will be moved by his collection.
